Key Features
- Wide Viscosity Range — The oil is sold from 10WT to 160WT, covering light to heavy damping settings.
- Damping Strength Control — The larger the number, the higher the concentration and the stronger the damping. Smaller numbers are thinner oil.
- Interchangeable With Differential Oil — Differential oil and shock absorber oil are essentially the same, so they can be used interchangeably when special adjustments are needed.
Product Specifications
- Capacity: One bottle of 2oz, approximately 59ml (2 US fl oz)
- Intended Use: Vehicles & Remote Control Toys
What It Is / How It Works
This is shock absorber oil, a lubricant for RC model crawler, buggy and truck shocks. Shock absorber oil provides damping and shock absorption, and the number you choose sets how thick it is.
Who It's For / Use Cases
Shock absorber oil suits RC hobbyists who run big foot cars, off road vehicles and short trucks, flat or rally bikes, or drift cars. Each of these builds has a usual viscosity range.
How to Use / Care
- Choose a viscosity for your build: big foot cars use 700 or 800, off road vehicles and short trucks use 500 or 600, flat or rally bikes use 300 or 400, and drift cars usually use 300-400cst.
- Before installing the shock absorbers, soak the O-ring in shock absorber oil so it expands and seals better.
- Let the suspension stand still for a period of time, placed on the suspension frame or on a cardboard box with a few small holes.
How to Choose
Start with the vehicle type, then use the usual range for it. Within a range, a higher number gives a more concentrated oil and stronger damping, while a lower number gives thinner oil and softer damping.
Ground conditions and personal preference also matter, so the number can be adjusted from the usual range.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the number in the viscosity name mean?
The larger the number, the higher the concentration and the stronger the damping. A smaller number is thinner oil.
How much oil is in one bottle?
One bottle holds 2oz, approximately 59ml (2 US fl oz).
Can it be used as differential oil?
Differential oil and shock absorber oil are essentially the same. The difference is concentration, so they can be used interchangeably when special adjustments are made.
Should the O-ring be treated before installing the shock absorbers?
Soak the shock absorber O-ring in shock absorber oil before installing it. The O-ring expands, which increases the shock absorber's sealing performance.
Which viscosity do drifting cars use?
Drifting cars usually use between 300-400cst. This range matches the 300CS to 400CS options.
